WHO WE ARE:

The Sparrow’s Nest is a Christian ministry center for those in need. Centrally located on a busy downtown street, our two story facility includes meeting and dining rooms, laundry and shower facilities, and space to organize and distribute clothing and food. A small staff and a large team of volunteers minister to those in need through weekday ministries rather than through traditional Sunday meeting and worship activities.

The Sparrow’s Nest is a place where those in need can find help in a Christ centered environment - a hot meal or a bag of groceries shared in love; showers and laundry facilities for the homeless; donated clothing for the needy, and vibrant ministries to at risk children and youth. Christians and churches from across the community are able to get involved in a variety of ways. Individuals can volunteer on an occasional or regular basis. Church groups can prepare and serve a meal and interact with those who come in a safe environment. The Sparrow’s Nest offers opportunities to serve, to donate, to share love and hope in both word and deed.

For many that we serve, the Sparrow’s Nest is a familiar and comfortable place of respite, even if only for a cup of coffee and a donut. For others, it is a place of teaching, healing, and recovery. Some connect with us in time of emergency need. Our hope and prayer is that those in need will see Christ in the helper, that those who serve will see Christ in those who come for help, and that both will honor Christ in the encounter. And as we encounter God’s grace and mercy in helping, we pray that men, women and children will encounter Christ as Savior and Lord.

HISTORY:

The Sparrow’s Nest was founded in the early 90s as an outreach ministry of Christ Life Church, formerly Athens Covenant Community. When Christ Life Church was closed, the Sparrow’s Nest became an independent ministry operating through the facilities of several local churches. In 2005, the ministry acquired the current facility at 745 Prince Avenue, which was remodeled for our ministry needs with the help of many local churches and individuals. The ministry center opened in September of 2006.

MISSION STATEMENT:

The Sparrow’s Nest is a non-profit, Christ-centered ministry that seeks to change lives through the power of God and nurturing relationships. By creatively meeting the needs of a population at risk, we build trust, which is the doorway to hope and transformation.
